LLappiesbaai is in the scenic town of Stilbaai, along South Africa’s famously beautiful Garden Route. Lappiesbaai takes its name from an unlikely source – the practice of hanging washing out to dry on the bushes of the beach dunes.
The tranquil village of Stilbaai is often referred to as the bay of sleeping beauty, as one of the peaks in the nearby Langeberg mountains resembles a sleeping woman.
This Lappiesbaai beach has been granted Blue Flag status. It stretches alongside the warm Indian Ocean, where the Goukou River flows into the sea.
The beach’s tranquil surroundings and whale-watching opportunities have contributed to its ever-increasing popularity, particularly over the December and Easter-holiday periods.
Spend some time relaxing on the pristine sand. Take a dip in the warm water, or try your hand at fishing or scuba diving. When you’ve soaked up enough sun, enjoy a lazy seaside meal.
Birders will find no shortage of birdlife to appreciate, and nature-lovers will be in their element. Beach-friendly wheelchairs are available.
The Stilbaai Tourism Bureau is located in a National Monument. Ask about the area’s heritage route and explore the local arts-and-crafts scene.
There’s something for everyone to enjoy in Stilbaai and along the beautiful Lappiesbaai beach. Make sure you set aside at least a day to relax and unwind.
