AA legacy of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™, this urban park was created in the vicinity of the Cape Town Stadium as a place for people to relax in the outdoors.
Green Point Park is a 12.5ha addition to Cape Town's urban park network that has quickly gained in popularity with visitors for its clever use of indigenous plants and beautiful landscaping.
It makes the best possible use of a prime location against the backdrop of the Cape Town Stadium that was built for the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ and is part of the Green Goal legacy projects in the wake of the international football tournament.
The park was laid out on land that once formed part of the Green Point Common, but which had been neglected for some time until the country hosted the football tournament.
The park features the indigenous plants of the Cape in a Biodiversity Showcase Garden, while broad paths circumnavigate a large, natural lake looking out towards Signal Hill and Lion's Head.
Set one road back from the seafront promenade, this park is the perfect place to relax with children. And unlike many other urban parks, activities such as skateboarding and cycling are allowed in designated areas.
Dog walkers can also exercise their pets on a leash, but have to pick up after them (dogs, however, are not allowed in the biodiversity garden).
Creative outdoor play areas (separate ones for children aged 1 to 6, and 7 to 16), plenty of seating for picnics, a free outdoor gym and a labyrinth created for quiet reflection all add to this beautiful park's appeal.
The park is also just a short walk from the Green Point Lighthouse on the promenade, which has a small museum.

How to get here
The park is next to the Cape Town Stadium in Bay Road, Green Point, on the MyCiti bus route and close to the V&A Waterfront.
Best time to visit
Any time of the year on a sunny day. In spring, the indigenous flowers put on a beautiful display. The park is open from 7am to 7pm daily.
Things to do
The V&A Waterfront is good for shopping and dining, while the nearby promenade offers the opportunity for a long seaside walk.
Tours to do
You can go on an hour-long Green Point Park Biodiversity Showcase Garden tour, or a stadium tour.
Get around
On foot, by car, or catch the bus.
