IIsandlwana Lodge, stylish and thought-provoking, is carved into the side of the Nyoni Rock just below where the Zulu commander stood during the Battle of Isandlwana on the 22nd of January 1879.
Isandlwana offers 12 stylishly furnished en-suite bedrooms, each with a private balcony overlooking the panorama of the battlefield and plain. In addition, the Lodge has a self-catering guest house with 3 twin bedrooms and a lounge.
There is hardly any place left in South Africa where one can watch the village come to life in the morning and close down at the end of the day as one can at Isandlwana Lodge. The Zulus are very hospitable people and they capture the imagination of guests from around the world because of their friendliness and fascinating culture.
Visitors to the Lodge often say one of the most intriguing aspects of this up-market lodge in rural Zululand is that two American senior women built it.  Pat Stubbs, the resident partner, has devoted the majority of her time to the lodge since 1998. Maggie Bryant, the other partner is a long-time conservationist who was responsible for bringing programmes and resources to the village which greatly enhanced the lives of many villagers, especially women and children. One of the benefits was the facilitation of a
water study that resulted in getting municipal water to more areas of the village than previously. The local people still cannot afford to have water piped into their homes nor electricity services though some have a meter for limited service when funds allow.
