Port Alfred is one of South Africa’s premier holiday destinations and is located in what is known as the Sunshine Coast.The white sandy beaches that stretch for miles on either side of the river offer safe swimming and sun bathing and are extremely popular amongst the surfing fraternity. The Kowie River, which is tidal and is navigable for 29 kms is a paradise for boating, bird watching, waterskiing and fishing. Deep sea anglers and scuba divers can charter trips at the harbour. The scenic Royal Port Alfred Golf Course is nearby and the well manicured Fish River Country Club is a 15 minute drive away. The Eastern Cape is a malaria free area and a number of the nearby game parks and reserves (including the well known Addo Elephant Park) have received international acclaim.
