GGame lodge accommodation in South Africa includes a vast range of venues, all of which are designed to bring the authentic African wildlife experience closer to you.
South African game lodges rank among the best in the world, thanks to the abundance of natural areas in the country and innovative ways in which the accommodation has been constructed.
There are hundreds of game reserves offering game lodge accommodation in South Africa. These include 20 national parks, several transfrontier parks, and a multitude of private game and nature reserves.
Accommodation in the national and transfrontier parks is in protected camps including main rest camps, bushveld camps, overnight hides, bush lodges and luxury lodges. Options range from caravan and camping sites to huts, stilted cabins and chalets. Some of the parks, including the Kruger National Park, have concessions within their protected borders that offer luxury private accommodation, usually 5-star luxury suites.
Aside from the private luxury lodges, most accommodation in national parks is self-catering (units are fully equipped). Rooms are serviced daily.
Much of the game lodge accommodation in private reserves is constructed to provide the best views over the bush. Accommodation in these lodges ranges from hilltop suites among rocky outcrops to tree house chalets, forest suites and luxurious tented camps.
Rooms are often inspired by the African safari and so feature a combination of colonial and contemporary African décor. All come standard with en suite bathrooms and most are air conditioned with decks or balconies. Ultra-luxury suites even feature private splash pools, outdoor showers and their own staff complements.
Many of South Africa's game lodges have been graded by the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa.
Be aware that some lodges are located in malaria areas. It is therefore best to check with your doctor before you arrive in South Africa on which prophylaxis to take.
