Lebo's Soweto Backpackers, located at the heart of South Africa’s largest township, values sustainability and invites guests to become part of this ethos.

Visitors have the opportunity to mingle with locals around a crackling fire and contribute meaningfully to the local economy and community development.

Long-term visitors are given the opportunity to contribute to the township through various volunteering opportunities. They can help organise after-school activities and engage children and youth in constructive, meaningful spare time. These efforts are coordinated with Hero Holidays, an organisation promoting responsible tourism.

In Lebo's open-air kitchen, guests can participate in an authentic cooking experience, preparing traditional Sowetan meals using fresh ingredients from the garden and local markets. This endeavour not only upholds the concept of 'farm to table', but also supports local producers.

Evenings at Lebo's Soweto are filled with enchantment as guests gather around a fire under the starry African sky, listening to real-life stories narrated by the people of Soweto, including freedom fighters, artists, and musicians. This storytelling tradition serves as a living museum, preserving the rich heritage and history of the township.

Visitors are also guided through historically significant sites like the Hector Pieterson Memorial and the lively Vilakazi Street - the only street in the world to have housed two Nobel Peace Prize laureates.

Exploration of Soweto is made fun and interactive through bicycle tours, Tuk-Tuk tours, and walking tours. These experiences also support local vendors and contribute to the local economy.

Accommodation at Lebo's Soweto caters to every kind of traveller. The Backpackers Lodge and Guesthouse offer a mix of dorm and private rooms, while Lebo-Land camping site allows guests to pitch their own tents or hire fully-equipped ones. These facilities, integrated into a space hosting a mini-farm, permaculture garden, and local art installations, further embody Lebo's commitment to sustainable practices and community development.
