South Africa

WWeddings in the country combine the best of South Africa’s rural beauty with a wide choice of venues. These range from farms and parks, to gardens, historic churches and picturesque hotels and restaurants.

At a country wedding in South Africa, the casual elegance of the setting combines with the warmth and hospitality of South Africa’s rural areas. Some country weddings take place on remote farms, while others make the most of magnificent parks and gardens filled with flowers that abound in South Africa. There are old manor houses with manicured grounds, South Africa's famed nature reserves, and small, historic chapels to choose from.

In the Western Cape, you can say 'I do' on an historic country estate in the winelands. Places like Paarl, Tulbagh and Worcestor are worth considering. Or how about the beautiful Riebeeck Valley? Closer to Cape Town, the gorgeous wine estates that make up the Constantia wine route are an excellent choice.

The Garden Route offers a good range of country-style wedding venues that cater for anything from a picnic to a country banquet; while in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, rolling green hills, historic towns and beautiful farms exemplify the country idyll.

In Gauteng, the Muldersdrift and Magaliesberg areas are filled with picturesque wedding venues. Given their proximity to Johannesburg and Pretoria (just an hour or so from both), these venues in particular combine the convenience of a big-city wedding with the charm of a country setting.

In the Free State, estates such as De Oude Kraal, just outside Bloemfontein, make for beautiful country wedding venues, as do pretty, rural towns such as Clarens and Ficksburg. Parys also has a number of wedding venues, many of them on the banks of the impressive Vaal River.

In Mpumalanga, there are romantic options for a country wedding situated in lush gardens, and places like Whispering Thorns know how to deliver the perfect event. Haernertsburg and Tzaneen in Limpopo are also small towns known for their gorgeous greenery, so if you're planning a wedding in spring (September and October in South Africa), these are good options.

Many country wedding venues in South Africa offer an all-inclusive wedding package, alternatively you can hire a wedding planner to help organise each detail of your special day or organise it all yourself − there are many excellent service providers of the relevant services in South Africa.
