SSouth Africa is flanked by two oceans (the warm Indian Ocean to the east and the cold Atlantic Ocean to the west) and enjoys a climate that allows for beach festivities throughout the year. The country’s biggest surfing event, the Ballito Pro, even takes place during winter.
Surfing competitions take place throughout the year in South Africa. Durban, Port Elizabeth, Jeffreys Bay and Cape Town, as well as various towns along the KwaZulu-Natal and Western Cape coastlines, host the majority of South Africa’s surfing showdowns and festivals.
Held in the KwaZulu-Natal town of Ballito, the Ballito Pro takes place in the months of June and July each year. The event has hosted world-class surfers the likes of Andy Irons, Jordy Smith and Ricky Basnett (all past winners).
In addition to the Ballito Pro, look out for the Regional Interclub Championships, the National Interclub Championship and the SA Interschools Championships.
