Sanctuary Mandela (UK)

NNelson Mandela touched the world with his humility and there are various places of interest around South Africa which commemorates the former statesman. One of the latest additions to South Africa’s property scene is Sanctuary Mandela, which was Nelson Mandela’s former home when he was released after spending 27 years in prison.

The property is located within the leafy suburbs of Houghton in Johannesburg and it was Nelson Mandela’s primary residence where he hosted the likes of former US First Lady Michelle Obama and Former US President Bill Clinton. The residence was later used as the headquarters for the Nelson Mandela Foundation.

SSanctuary Mandela is a nine-room boutique hotel which pays tribute to the Nelson Mandela in various tranquil spaces throughout the property. Various spaces have been transformed within the property for people to reflect and pay homage to the former president. The property features artwork and artefacts in memory of the late former President, and these can be found in the communal areas throughout the property

TThere are four room types within the property which differ in size and price; all rooms are decorated in a modern yet simple style. The menu at the restaurant within the property features a few of Nelson Mandela’s favourite dishes and the Nelson Mandela Centre of Liberty is located a short walk from the property.
