You are only moments away

AAt the Old Biscuit Mill in Albert Road, Woodstock, you can dine in some of Cape Town's best restaurants, view beautiful artworks, buy designer items and, on weekends, browse one of the trendiest markets in the city. This is a vibrant, warm-hearted little village in the heart of Woodstock where talented people come together to share, collaborate and show off their heartfelt passion.

Day and night markets, dynamic office space, a range of workshops and designer stores, delicious farm stalls, decadent restaurants as well as an inspiring line-up of festivals and productions. A trip to Cape Town would not be complete without a visit to The Mill. So come explore and meet some of South Africa’s most talented, innovative designers, artists, photographers, and connoisseurs of fine taste and decor.

It might be argued that the gritty suburb of Woodstock's urban renewal all started with the Old Biscuit Mill in Albert Road. This former red-brick factory building has been transformed into an emporium of designer delights, and many others in the area are catching on by renovating buildings into shopping and dining areas for the urban chic.

Did You Know?
WWoodstock once had its own beach with cottages right next to the sea. Sadly, all this was lost to a land-reclamation project that created a deep-water harbour in the 1950s.

OOn Saturdays, people flock to the popular Neighbourgoods Market, which was started by two young entrepreneurs, Justin Rhodes and Cameron Munro, in 2006. Since then, it's grown into a weekly celebration of local foods, from freshly baked breads to organic vegetables, handcrafted cheese, sausages, wines, chocolates, craft beers and more.

TThe market is held in the old red-brick warehouse, with skylights that make it a big, airy space. But get there early as it is a popular Saturday morning hangout. The Old Biscuit Mill also houses galleries, craft shops, a wine emporium, chocolatier and some of the city's best restaurants.

The Test Kitchen is a case in point. Started by chef Luke Dale-Roberts in 2010, it has garnered an impressive list of local awards and placed in the top 50 on the list of the World's 50 Best Restaurant Awards. A table at this sought-after eatery is hard to come by, but there's another delightful alternative in the Potluck Club (also a Dale-Roberts eatery), which has a lighter touch with its tapas-style menu. Located at the top of the old silo, it has an impressive view of the neighbourhood towards Table Mountain and over the harbour.

FFor wine lovers, the Wine @ the Mill speciality wine shop offers a stunning array of the Cape's finest, specialising in boutique wineries. CocoaFair offers handmade chocolates and Ma Mère Maison, is a specialist French confectionary. Alongside this, you'll find a photography gallery, designer children's goods, clothing, ceramics and more.

Since the Old Biscuit Mill opened its doors, the surrounding suburb of Woodstock has been undergoing a quiet transformation, rapidly becoming a hub for many young and trendy start-up businesses. It's well worth a visit.
