Guest House
A guesthouse can be an existing home, a renovated home or a building that has been specifically designed as a residential dwelling to provide accommodation for guests. Guest houses must have more than three bedrooms. They must also have public living areas for the exclusive use of guests.

Hotel
Hotels provide accommodation for tourists. They may offer a full suite of services or they may offer limited services only. To qualify as a hotel, a facility must have a reception area, a dining area and at least six guest bedrooms. Most hotels, however, have more than 20 rooms for guest accommodation.

Bed & Breakfast
A bed and breakfast facility provides accommodation more informal than accommodation provided at hotels and lodges. Guests are usually accommodated in the (private) home of the owner, manager or host. Breakfast must be served and bathroom facilities must be en suite. If en suite bathrooms cannot be provided, exclusive use of a bathroom must be provided for guests.

A self-catering property is your home away from home. It usually offers guests a sole occupancy unit consisting of one or more bedrooms or suites and a dining area with cooking facilities.

Accommodation in self catering facilities is a guest’s ‘home away from home’. These facilities usually offer guests a unit consisting of one or more bedrooms or suites and a dining area with cooking facilities. Servicing may be provided. There are various styles of self catering facilities in South Africa. They include apartments, villas and resorts.

Must have more than 3 rooms and public areas for the exclusive use of its guests. It is situated in natural peaceful surroundings such as near a nature reserve, a forest, a lake, etc.

A country lodge may be an existing home, a renovated home or a building that has been specifically designed as a residential dwelling to provide accommodation for guests. It must have more than three rooms and a public living area reserved for the exclusive use of guests. Country lodges are situated in natural peaceful surroundings such as near a nature reserve, a forest, a lake or so on.

Backpacking & Hosteling
Backpacker and hosteling establishments provide communal facilities for guests. They are budget-orientated, social accommodation facilities where guests rent a bed (which may be a bunk bed) in a dormitory. Guests share the bathroom, sitting room and kitchen. Rooms may be mixed or single sex. Private rooms may also be available

Caravan & Camping
Caravan and camping parks provide space for guests who bring their own accommodation in the form of a tent, a motor home and/or a caravan. Along with rental space, ablution and toilet facilities must be provided.

Game Lodge
A Game / Nature / Wilderness Lodge (incl. Private Nature Reserves) is a formal accommodation facility providing formal and informal services, located in natural surroundings beyond that of an immediate garden area and located in a natural setting usually, but not always, away from human settlements.
