SSouth African Tourism (SA Tourism) wishes to clarify the inaccuracies in a City Press article dated 15th December 2024 with headline “Questions Over SA Tourism’s Tenders” written by journalist Norman Masungwini. The article refers to the alleged awarding of a R100 million tender for an Exhibition Management Company. The claims in the article misrepresent facts, and the processes involved.

The City Press article creates the impression that Minister of Tourism, Ms. Patricia de Lille’s announcement of the Meetings Africa and Africa’s Travel Indaba event dates is linked to the tender process. We unequivocally state that the Minister of Tourism plays no role in any tender process or awarding thereof.

Furthermore, South African Tourism can confirm that no bidder has been awarded a R100 million tender for Exhibition Management. To ensure that the tender process is fair and compliant, in addition to probity auditors, an independent forensic investigation process was initiated earlier this month on 6 December 2024.
