Mumbai, 6th October 2023: Standing testament to the exceptional experiences and adventures that South Africa offers to its travellers, South African Tourism wins yet another prestigious title of ‘Best Adventure Tourism Destination’ at Today’s Traveller 26th Anniversary Celebrations & Awards 2023, held at Taj Mahal Palace in New Delhi.

Boasting diverse landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and a vibrant spirit, South Africa offers an array of adventurous pursuits for every discerning traveller. The destination is home to more than 3000 adventure activities including one of the world’s highest bungee jumping, shark-cage diving, big swing options, skydiving, ziplining amidst the awe-inspiring scenery, and many more along its breathtaking coastlines.

Recognising the achievement, Ms. Neliswa Nkani, Hub Head – Middle East, India, and South East Asia, South African Tourism said, “I feel humbled that our persistent efforts have amounted to South Africa being named as the ‘Best Adventure Tourism Destination’ at Today’s Traveller Awards 2023. It is my honour to share this milestone with my team at home and express heartfelt gratitude to the travel trade fraternity here in India for being the backbone of executing our strategies which have paved way for a smooth recovery.”

“As we remain on track in our journey to meet pre-pandemic arrivals from the Indian market this year, securing recognitions such as these are important in keeping our team spirit high and helping us to stay aligned with our goals. We continue to witness tremendous growth numbers from India year-on-year, and it is my belief that this is only the beginning. Through our collaborative efforts, we shall endeavour to promote the Rainbow Nation endearingly and ensure more such accolades to our name in the near future”, she continued.

With robust marketing and on-ground consumer initiatives coupled with enticing airfare offers, South Africa has risen higher up in the consideration set of Indian travellers seeking an adventurous, value-for-money destination. South African Tourism has witnessed over 80% growth in arrivals during January – July 2023 in comparison to the same period last year. South African Tourism is deeply invested in India as part of their long-term global strategy, and it is one of the top-3 focus markets for the tourism board globally. This year, the tourism board aims to achieve pre-pandemic arrival numbers from India.

At present, the destination enjoys great connectivity with extremely short layovers across most major international airlines. Several stop-over flights fly from India to South Africa, including Emirates, Qatar Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways and Air Seychelles. Travellers can apply for visas via VFS, where the processing time is extremely short, with visas available within 5-7 working days from the date of application.
